Joining the KLPA is open to all women and costs £5.00 per year.
You do NOT have to be a member of the KLPA to swim at the Kenwood Ladies' Pond. The City of London, which manages the swimming facilities on Hampstead Heath, asks all swimmers for a contribution of £2.00 (£1.00 concessions) or to purchase a season ticket (details here).
The KLPA is independent of the City of London and the Hampstead Heath management but works closely with them to represent the interests of swimmers. It is run on a purely voluntary basis for and by pond users. There are no paid staff. Officers and the committee are elected at the AGM, which is usually held in March.
To join, membership forms can be found under the noticeboard in the changing rooms at the Pond or can be printed out from here, please complete and send with your five pound subscription to: Anne Burley, Membership Secretary, 96 Highgate Hill, London N6 5HE. You can also join in person at the AGM.
Our priority is to preserve the pond with its peaceful, natural qualities and to maintain it as a women’s swimming place. Occasionally this means we need to lobby or campaign.
Otherwise, we exist to provide information and encourage more women to enjoy more about the pond. We produce a newsletter about three times a year and organise events for fun including a festive swim at midday on New Year’s Day and sometimes a summer outing to a river, lake or seaside. The AGM is usually followed by a short talk to do with the pond or wild swimming and is also a social gathering where everyone enjoys drinks and a pot luck feast.
