‘The weather was fabulous, hot but breezy. We picnicked under an oak in deep shade just below the castle with superb views over the estuary, watching the first yachts coming out on the incoming tide. People seemed to love Leigh, half the group stayed on rather than walking to Chalkwell. We swam off the pier and then two splinter groups just managed to catch a swim before the water left Chalkwell with the receeding tide.
The group was a heartening mixture ...... and all were very friendly so it felt inclusive. It was a diverse group in age (every decade from 20s to late 60s I think) and everything else but united by a love of the outdoors and general gameness.’
